The painting that made Munich look twice.

When Franz Stuck exhibited Sin (Die Sünde) in 1893, it became an instant sensation. A woman emerges from pure darkness, a heavy serpent draped across her shoulders, her face half-lost in shadow while her eyes meet yours. It’s seductive, ominous, and impossible to look away from, and it remains one of the defining images of European Symbolism.

Stuck was a leading German Symbolist, a co-founder of the Munich Secession, and a teacher of Kandinsky and Klee. His work lives where myth, temptation, and dread overlap, and Sin is the clearest expression of it. The deep black field and the pale glow of the figure give the piece a theatrical drama that looks striking on any wall.

This print is made for the dark academia library, the moody bedroom, the gothic gallery wall, or the altar corner.

WHY IT WORKS ON A WALL
The contrast is the point. Warm light picks out the figure while the shadows deepen the room around it. Pair it with Lucifer, Sensuality, and Medusa for a coordinated set of Stuck’s darkest work.

CHOOSE YOUR FINISH

  • Matte Paper: Smooth, non-reflective, and rich in the blacks. Our most popular option and an excellent everyday choice.
  • Fine Art Textured Paper: Heavier paper with a subtle grain that gives the print the feel of an original painting. Our pick if you want a gallery look without the cost of canvas.
  • Canvas Print: A real canvas surface for the closest thing to a painted piece. Ready to hang.
