Medusa by Franz Stuck Art Print
Franz Stuck’s Medusa (c. 1892) strips the Gorgon myth down to the single thing that matters: the stare. Her face is pale and fixed, her hair is a knot of living serpents, and her gaze holds you in place the way the myth says it should. There’s no gore and no hero in sight. Just the monster looking back at you.
Stuck was a leading German Symbolist, a co-founder of the Munich Secession, and a teacher of Kandinsky and Klee. He was fascinated by dangerous women and classical myth, and Medusa is one of his most direct images of both. The cold light on her face against the darkness around her gives the piece a theatrical, hypnotic drama.
This print is made for the dark academia library, the moody bedroom, the gothic gallery wall, or the altar corner.
WHY IT WORKS ON A WALL
A face is the strongest thing you can hang at eye level, and this one dares the room to look away. It also works in smaller spaces where a full-length figure wouldn’t. Pair it with Sin, Lucifer, and The Kiss of the Sphinx for a coordinated set of Stuck’s darkest work.
CHOOSE YOUR FINISH
- Matte Paper: Smooth, non-reflective, and rich in the shadows. Our most popular option and an excellent everyday choice.
- Fine Art Textured Paper: Heavier paper with a subtle grain that gives the print the feel of an original painting. Our pick if you want a gallery look without the cost of canvas.
- Canvas Print: A real canvas surface for the closest thing to a painted piece. Ready to hang.
