Franz Stuck’s Lucifer (1890) strips the fallen angel of fire and horns and gives him something stranger: stillness. A pale, shadowed figure emerges from near-total darkness, his eyes catching the light like the last embers of a fire that burned out long ago. It’s less a villain than a portrait of beautiful, dangerous melancholy, and it’s one of the most striking images of the Symbolist movement.

Stuck was a leading German Symbolist painter, a co-founder of the Munich Secession, and a teacher of Kandinsky and Klee. His work lives where myth, desire, and dread overlap. This print brings that atmosphere into your space, whether you’re building a dark academia library, a moody bedroom, a gothic gallery wall, or an altar corner.

WHY IT WORKS ON A WALL
The deep tonal range and heavy shadows make this piece look rich and dramatic, especially in a room with warm lighting. It pairs well with other Stuck works in our shop (Sin, Medusa, The Kiss of the Sphinx) for a coordinated set.

CHOOSE YOUR FINISH

  • Matte Paper: Smooth, non-reflective, and deep in the blacks. Our most popular option and an excellent everyday choice.
  • Fine Art Textured Paper: Heavier paper with a subtle grain that gives the print the feel of an original painting. Our pick if you want a gallery look without the cost of canvas.
  • Canvas Print: A real canvas surface for the closest thing to a painted piece. Ready to hang.
